Literature Text

People constantly questioned your relationship with your boyfriend- but who could blame them? You and Alfred F. Jones were practically polar opposites! You were self-conscious, reserved and studious, while he was loud, energetic and reckless. He was imaginative; you were realistic. Before you got to know each other, you classified him under the category 'obnoxious', and he labelled you as 'boring'.

However, one science project you guys were forced to do together made the two of you inseparable. Alfred soon began to realize that you did have a fun side- it only took a matter of time for you to open up. You also found out that despite the overwhelming exterior he put out, he could be soft and serious as well. In a few months, he wasn't the 'hero-wannabe jokester' in your eyes, and you were no longer the 'invisible, forgettable girl in class' to him.

The American asked you out when the both of you were seventeen, and three years down the lane, your relationship was still continuing to grow strong. Of course you had your ups and downs, but you tried to accept the differences between you two. For example, since Alfred was a rather attention-seeking person, he enjoyed slumping his arm around your waist or shoulder in public, as if to declare that you were taken and that he was yours. At the beginning, you weren't that fond of the idea of showing even the simplest public displays of affection, but after a while, you got comfortable with it. There was no denying that you would still roll your eyes at his childishness, while he scoffs at your lack of adventure, but nevertheless, you loved each other.

Yet recently, you couldn't help but not shake off the insecure feeling that perhaps you weren't good enough for Alfred. What if the things people said about you two were true? Were you really weighing Alfred down? You bit your lip as you thought about your blue-eyed boyfriend, trying to analyze any recent moments to see if he was any less interested in you. You didn't really find any clues, but you could never be too sure.

'It won't be a surprise though. I'm so plain compared to him,' you sighed while absentmindedly twirling a few strands of your (insert colour) hair. Your heart still beats faster at the thought of him, and a smile would continue to grace your lips at the image of his excitable face. Selfish as it might sound, you didn't want to lose him, making you to hope that your relationship would make it through.

This led you to jaw-drop when Alfred unexpectedly asked you out on a date at a five-star restaurant. That was so... unlike him! Didn't he know that hamburgers and sodas weren't served there?

"What's the occasion?" you asked. The two of you were currently at your neighbourhood park, merely spending some time with each other.

"C'mon, ____! We don't need an occasion to try something new! It'll be fun!" he said cheerfully, squeezing onto your hand. That toothy grin on his face made it impossible for you to say 'no' (not that you were going to anyways).

"Awesome! I'll pick you up tomorrow at seven," he said. You chuckled; one would have to wait weeks before getting a reservation at that restaurant, what if you said you were busy instead? Alfred would probably drop to the floor dramatically and curse himself for not asking you beforehand. You placed a quick peck on his cheek before heading home, leaving him to smile like a dork as he watched you walk away.

---

Ding dong!

You opened your apartment door, widening your (insert colour) eyes as you revealed a stiff-looking Alfred in a tuxedo. Raising an eyebrow, you said one word, "Arthur?"

"Yep, the dude gave me this for my birthday," he said, putting on a British accent as he imitated him, ""See? Doesn't that look a lot better?""

Arthur adopted Alfred when he was six years old, and since their age gap wasn't very large, he saw the British man more as a brother rather than a father.

"You look good though," you said appreciatively, leaning forward to straighten out his loose tie. He grinned, before realizing how beautiful you looked. Even though you were decked out in only a simple black dress and heels, you still looked ravishing. You had on a necklace to allow its silver and sparkling blue colours add more elegance to the outfit and the light make-up you wore gave you a fresh appearance. You didn't want to go overboard when dressing up, and it was good because Alfred preferred your natural look. You were practically perfect to him.

"Whoa," he said, his eyes twinkling, "You look hot!"

If Arthur was behind him, he would've slapped his back and chide him for his lack of vocabulary. You laughed and thanked him, then allowing him to lead you to his awaiting car.

---

Alfred parked the car near the restaurant, but just as you undid your seat belt, he quickly said, "Wait, ___! Don't go out yet!"

You gave him a confused face, but nevertheless obliged. He got out of the car and dashed over to your side, his tongue sticking out from the corner of his mouth as he concentrated on not being clumsy. He swung your door open, greeting you with a cheesy, contagious smile. Although initially shocked by the abrupt way he opened the door, his face made you giggle uncontrollably.

"You've learnt well," you teased as you stepped out of the car. He let out a hearty laugh as he shut the door, sticking close to you while approaching the restaurant.

"The hero is always a gentleman to his girl," he said proudly. You rolled your eyes, he wasn't Arthur-standard, but he was getting there. It wasn't like you cared though; you liked him either way.

When the two of you were seated, you noticed from the corner of your eye the way Alfred scrunched his face in confusion at the fancy odd-sounding dishes, evidently too used to his junk food. You leaned over and whispered to him, "Al, there's steak."

His entire expression lit up at the mention of the juicy meat, immediately flipping through the menu to see the dish.

'He's adorable,' you thought to yourself while hiding your face into the menu. It was amazing how he could make a twenty-year old act like a love struck teenaged girl.

---

After the meal, you suggested going for a walk around the area. You walked side-by-side, chatting aimlessly when Alfred suddenly reached out to grasp onto your hand. You blushed, entwining your smaller fingers with his as you walked closer to him, your bodies occasionally bumping against each other.

Soon, you had walked to an area that displayed the glorious view of the New York City skyline.

"This is beautiful," you said dreamily, your eyes relishing the beautiful scenery.

His sapphire eyes softened as he saw how lovely you looked at that very moment. He playfully nudged you while saying, "I love you, ____~"

It was then that it really hit you. Why did you ever doubt him? Why did you ever put yourself down? You felt guilt build up inside you; this man obviously cared about you so much.

"Alfred, I'm sorry," you said, making him whip his head towards you at your unexpected sad tone. "I thought I was getting too boring for you, and was beginning to question our relationship. Alfred, you're too good for me and I figured you wouldn't want me anymore sooner or later… But-"

He didn't allow you to finish as he burst out, "What?! I'm too good for you?? Dude, you got it the wrong way round! I tried all this fancy, dress-up stuff so that you'd still like me!"

He said the last part in a gentler tone, "____, no matter what you do, you still get my heart racing for you."

The boy had clearly been watching too many cliché movies, but nevertheless, it still made your heart make tiny leaps. You weren't expecting him to say that at all! You gave him a goofy smile, bringing a hand up to your flaming cheeks while shifting about shyly.

"Besides, together, we'd fight crime and bring justice to the world! We're the ultimate power couple and-"

Now it was your turn to interrupt him before he ruined the moment with his rambles about heroes and whatnot, and the best way to shut him up was by using your lips.

"Mmph!" was the sound he made as you surprised him with a searing kiss, but he quickly adapted, wrapping his strong arms around your waist as he pulled you closer.

Even though you were still young lovers, you knew that Alfred would never stop loving you, and you were certain that he was your life, your love, your only.
I was heavily inspired by the song 'Never Stop' by Safetysuit
Here's a link to the song: [link]
America wasn't my top few favourite nations, but yet when I listened to this song, I couldn't stop having him appear in my head. So I was like, "Aww yeah, I'mma write a fanfic about this!" I didn't have many photos of him, so when I was browsing about, I started liking him more and more. I've never paid much attention to him, but now I think he's adorable :iconimtheheroplz:
Oh and umm, p.s you guys are humans here, not personified countries (though I'm sure you know that already :P) I'm terribly sorry for using so many timeskips, argh! :iconfrancesulkplz:
Feel free to give me constructive criticism, but no flaming please :)
